How CTC Translates to Real In-Hand Pay
Why CTC ÷ 12 does not equal your monthly bank credit
The Gross vs Net Gap
Your monthly in-hand is 18% to 35% lower than CTC ÷ 12 because employer PF, gratuity provisions, employee PF, and tax TDS are subtracted before bank transfer.
EPFO ₹25,000 Cap (Sep 2026)
The updated wage ceiling caps standard EPF at ₹3,000/month. If your employer deducts PF on full basic, deductions can be up to ₹9,600/month, cutting your immediate take-home.
Income-tax Act, 2025 Slabs
Under Section 202, tax rates start at 0% up to ₹4L, with standard deduction of ₹75,000 and Section 156 full rebate for taxable incomes up to ₹12 Lakhs.

Your Cost to Company (CTC) is the total annual expenditure your employer incurs for employing you. However, your monthly in-hand salary — the amount that actually lands in your bank account — is significantly lower than CTC ÷ 12.
What's deducted from your CTC?
- Employer PF contribution — Your employer's 12% contribution to EPF is a CTC cost, not part of your cash salary. With the new ₹25,000 statutory ceiling (effective 17 September 2026), this is ₹3,000/month for the ceiling scenario.
- Gratuity provision — Typically ~4.81% of basic salary, set aside as a CTC component but not paid monthly.
- Employee PF — Your 12% contribution is deducted from your cash salary before it reaches your bank.
- Income tax (TDS) — Monthly tax deducted at source based on your annual tax liability.
- Professional tax — A state-level tax, typically ₹200/month (₹2,500/year) in most states.
New vs Old Tax Regime for 2026–27
The new tax regime under Section 202 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 is the default for Tax Year 2026–27. It offers wider slabs (0% up to ₹4L, then 5% increments) and a ₹75,000 standard deduction. The old regime allows deductions like 80C, 80D, HRA exemption, and home loan interest, but has narrower slabs.
Why two offers with the same CTC can have different in-hand pay
Different employers structure CTC differently. Company A might set basic at 40% of CTC with statutory PF, while Company B sets basic at 50% with PF on full basic. The result: identical headline CTC, but different monthly bank credits.
